The Ginko leaf stands for resilience, hope, peace, love, magic, timelessness, and long life. The copper backplate was cut out using a hydraulic press, then textured with a hammer. A bail was soldered on and the enamel piece was attached to the backplate with micro screws.
The enameled piece started out as a hand cut piece of copper. I sifted Vitreous Enamel (pigmented powdered glass) onto the copper, heated with a torch or kiln to 1500 degrees farenheit until the glass melted and adhered to the copper. This process of sifting and firing on both sides of the copper is repeated multiple times for coverage. The edges of the piece are then polished to remove excess enamel and to show the copper edge.
Necklace measures 2 1/4 by 3 1/8 inches and is hung from a 17 inch 4 strand leather cord. In addition there is a 3 inch chain extender.
